April 16 - Fault Lines

This is one of the purest folk songs from this period of the Mountain Goats. It's an ode to useless material worth and poisoned love: two people who depend on each other to the point where it's making both of them sick and preventing either of them from leaving.

The songs of this period feel like seeds that have been planted and will flourish as time goes on. The lyrical complexity and emotional simplicity sketch a design that later albums will fill in using watercolours, and from these jolly angry wretched beginnings we will see a flower that will define this band.
