You're taking a nap in the middle of the day with the person you love. The two of you snuggled. Maybe cats but not necessarily cats. And you're warm and you're content and you've perhaps been apart but are now together. And for a fleeting moment, almost to brief to really register, you think that actually it would be okay if this was it. If everything faded and went now and that was that.

And that's not what this song is about, but that is where my mind went. One of the curiosities of the happiest Mountain Goats songs is that they don't sound like the happiest Mountain Goats songs. There's a central melancholy to them, mist around the perfect treehouse, as if acknowledging that the sadness in the world will continue to be there even when things seem at their happiest.

But that's actually okay.
