September 23 - Rage of Travers
This is a song about the passing of musical legacies, of the hot current thing becoming a thing of the past. And interestingly this is a concept that I think is slowly fading away. Whatever else one might say about the way music works or doesn't work in the modern era, something that has happened is that music has greater latency. There are bad reasons for this (nostalgia and recycling and a lack of risktaking) but it means that if you were in a successful act in 1998 you can probably tour today.
But at its heart, this is a song about feeling like you've been left behind. Looking at a space that was yours and seeing its current owners. Going from being the man of the moment to the man of no moments. Honestly I have successfully avoided this my whole life by not ever having that moment. If you start in the wilderness then you can just keep swimming.
And today's weird Youtube find: Railyard Ghosts (crust punk folk band) covering hip hop outside a diner.
