February 9 - Some Swedish Trees

God, I am such a sucker for band chat in songs. There's nothing like thinking of bands as collections of voices to make the sing feel natural and like it captures a moment.

And on the chorus of this odd little pastoral we get (for I think the first time in this collection) a harmonised voice, adding to John's and raising it. The two voices together gave this song a seventies folk-rock feel which felt natural with its content, and was matched by the return of bass behind the guitar. It also moves Sweden along from where it had been in my head - a collection of lonely songs from one half of a relationship - to something more whole and complex. And long may that complexity continue.
