September 5 - Choked Out

As a rando on Yahoo Answers asked decades ago: "Are you tired of being nice? Don't you just want to go ape shitt"

And this is a song about going ape shitt. Which is different from turning heel (more on that over the next couple of days). Going apeshit is about deciding that you aren't bound by decorum, that if nobody's obeying the rules you don't have to either. It's the core of vigilantism but there is a defining difference between this and a heel turn. It's the difference between "the rules don't apply to me" (a heel turn) and "this is more important than the rules".

In wrestling, this is often when you see a good guy at his most frayed. Hangman Page is a wonderful example of this: most of the time a model of ability and decorum, a good guy's good guy. And then Swerve Strickland broke into his house. And so Hangman paid a visit to Swerve's childhood home and the result was one of the most compelling images in AEW:

At some point you decide that stopping is a choice, and not a choice you have to make just yet. At some point revenge becomes more important than doing the right thing. And... at some point that crosses over into full villainy. But not just yet.
