March 11 - Ghosts

The bouncing roll of the guitar in this is an early example of one of my favourite John tropes: the jolly, catchy song about how depressed the singer is and how much everything is terrible.

Well, that's dismissive. It's not just about that, although the "it made me wish I was dead" refrain makes that a fundamental part. This to me is a song about the joy of breaking free from things, of knowing what the darkness looks like, and of walking towards lighter and better places. Not a depressing song but a song about depression.
