January 31 - Going To Wisconsin
This is a song that comes out of the blocks at full pace, with seemingly no care whether if trips over its own feet a few times as it goes. It gets noticeably faster as it's going which feels like that ideal mix of thematically appropriate and not necessarily on purpose.
The lyrics are the perfect sort of young-man-yelling-at-the-sky nonsense, a flight of fancy that skids across the surface of the song like a stone across Lake Superior. Or possibly a water droplet across a hot plate.
This is passion, and passion is sometimes more important than technique. Certainly passion is what gets you off the runway so that technique can keep you flying.
We're one month in to this journey. We're in the air. Let's see where we go from here.
