April 26 - Yoga

Hearing full or even partial band Mountain Goats from this period (this is another Devil in the Shortwave track) is a really interesting experience, because it feels like watching something emerge. This is true nowhere more than in this track, which starts off with simple guitar and strings and builds upwards through increased chaotic instrumentation.

I love the lyrical delicacy here, starting with a small moment of conflict in miniature (it was lovely, it was awful, it was that kind of feeling) and expending from there.

This song spoke to me of what is to come, of the form that this band are going to take, something that is brilliant and tragic and hilarious and always tied to the roots of an old tape recorder even as its sound echoes through the streets of Bombay
