This is the musical equivalent of the moment in a sitcom where someone walks in and everyone applauds. Jenny is a huge figure in the shared fiction that is Mountain Goats songs, a figure of wildness and adoration and chaos and trouble and so much more, and hearing this second song to mention her is like reaching solid ground where the sand underfood it warm and still wet but solid.

So, aside from its status as mythology, how is this song? Great, basically. An ode of love and trouble with some really outstanding couplets. May you feel for someone and may they feel for you what the narrator of this song feels for Jenny. If this happened even in the fiction, of course. This is a more blissful thing than a happy ending, this is an ideal moment. And being a moment rather than a finish we can keep coming back to it, rolling it into our lives like a suspiciously brand new motorcycle.
